I didn't realize that it was a social blunder. I believe that most people know little of philosophy. To discuss it with them would be akin to having a battle of wits with an unarmed person. Few people feel comfortable discussing that which threatens their version of reality or that which they cannot understand. I agree that the masses are content to remain ignorant and in the dark. It's easier for them to discuss unimportant matters.
